Creating a Space
One of the things that makes Flotilla really special is that we don't host your community, we only provide the software that you use to access it.
Instead, your space is hosted on a server you control — either by contracting with a hosting provider, or by running your own server. Flotilla spaces are also Nostr relays, which means you get all the benefits of the Nostr app ecosystem for free!
Hosted Spaces
To get started, you'll first want to figure out how you want to host your space. To make things easy, Flotilla's parent company Coracle provides a hosting solution, which you can sign up for here.
Several other options exist though, which you can find by clicking "Add a Space", then "Create a Space".

We recommend you click through multiple providers so you can decide which provider offers the right solution for your community.
When you've decided who you want to host your space with, follow the hosting provider's instructions. They may contact you via Nostr direct message, provide a web interface for managing your relay, or simply work with you personally to set up infrastructure on your own server.
Self Hosting
If you prefer to control the server infrastructure yourself, you can also go the self-hosting route. There are dozens of Nostr relay implementations out there, but we recommend Zooid by Coracle, which was purpose-built to work with Flotilla. Another good option is Pyramid, which provides a dashboard and unique relay policies.
If you're ready to get started, please take a look at our guide for a step-by-step self-hosting walk through.
Down the road, you may want to migrate your relay to another server, relay implementation, or domain name. This is all a pretty manual process right now, but we're working on tools to make it easier!
If you've set up a relay and need some help, join our space and we'll be happy to help you out.
